I spent some time this week with one of my favorite friends, Rochelle Poulson. Rochelle is a fellow cancer cowgirl and the star of the documentary film Cancerpants. While reminiscing about our experiences with breast cancer and talking about our future goals, we created some vegan deliciousness in my cowgirl kitchen. She shared her favorite winter drink recipe with me, the Roots & Fruits Smoothie. I loved it so much that I wanted to share with all of you. Not only is this smoothie delicious, but it’s also nutritious, filled to the brim with cancer-fighting phyto-chemicals from local, in-season, and organic vegetables.
Roots & Fruits Smoothie
Roots & Fruits Smoothie Ingredients (Makes two 24 ounce servings):
3 Blood Oranges
5-8 sprigs Cilantro
1 inch Fresh Rosemary
1/2 inch Fresh Tumeric Root
1/2 Ginger Root
1-2 Kale leaves
1 Fuji Apple
4-5 Dried Figs
1/2 cup Frozen Mango chunks (optional) or 6-8 ice cubes
*2-3 drops of an ingestible essential oil such as Wild Orange, Fennel, or doTerra’s On Guard
16-20 oz. Filtered Water
Roots & Fruits is the perfect cleansing drink this time of year. It’s tasty, it fills you up, and works perfectly as a meal replacement. On the days I don’t juice greens, love to drink smoothies first thing in the morning. I am doubly thrilled to have to have had some special time with my dear friend Rochelle, and be able to share this special and yummy drink with each of you. Thank you Rochelle and yeehaw!
